Underground Black Metal Bands

Black Metal was always, intentionally or not, designed to be conceived as an underground music genre, even in the Heavy Metal community.

Especially during the past decade, Black Metal music has reached an amount of musical skill and popularity, unparalleled by any other Heavy Metal genre.

But still, the popularity of Black Metal music remains concealed between few of the top Black Metal bands. Unfortunately, the notorious Black Metal isn't always the best... Rarely, in fact.

That is why this article will feature some of the best music hailing from underground Black Metal scenes.

Ceremonial Castings is quite surprisingly an underground Black Metal band. Though musically extremely talented and very popular amongst its loyal fan-base. Ceremonial Castings revolutionized the genres of melodic Black Metal and symphonic Black Metal, by adding a yet undiscovered epic atmosphere to the music.

The most revolutionary music produced by this underground Black Metal band is either in the 2005 Full-Length release, Immortal Black Art, or the following 2006 album, Barbaric is the Beast.

The songs produced by Ceremonial Castings are composed of very raw yet melodic atmospheres, composed and bound together by the archaic use of keyboards. Tracks like Come Forth Damnation, When Wolves Desire or Sweet Misery I Forsee display an intense and epic melody, only surpassed by the malevolent aura resulting from the raw sounding.

Ceremonial Castings is definitively an underground Black Metal that deserves more recognition.

Bahimiron is a more recent band than the other underground Black Metal bands presented in the page, yet it is one of the most classical of all Black Metal musical groups of today.

Whether in the 2006, Pure Negativism: In Allegiance With Self Wreckage, or in it's following, Southern Nihilizm, Bahimiron projects not only the chilling raw Black Metal of more atmospheric bands, but also the powerful aura of mysticism crafted in early bands like Von.

This band's gloomy atmosphere and epic riffage is widely recognized in the very underground Black Metal community, but still deserves more notoriety.

When we think of it, Von is pretty much related to every characteristic known of Black Metal.

They were first to introduce the dark and evil riffs, the blast-beats and the satanic imagery into the newly form Black Metal scene, in the early nineties.

They were also the first to mention the importance of atmosphere in Black Metal music, as well as the first to present original Black Metal riffs, which were to influence to most popular bands nowadays.

Yet, if Von isn't per say the typical mainstream Black Metal band (luckily), they aren't either the band that gets the recognition they deserve.

Von's first demo Satanic Blood was the very founding of modern Black Metal. There is a very precise and remarkable separation between the pre-Von and post-Von Black Metal.

The pre-Von Black Metal consists of very Trash Metal sounding guitar and drum work, and is also characterized by the absence of any Satanic movement.
